1.2 Automatically Collected Information
- Location Data: When you grant permission, we collect precise location data to help you log where you caught fish and create location-based analytics. This location data is only collected when you actively use the app and choose to add location to your catches.
- Weather Data: We retrieve weather conditions for your fishing locations to enhance your trip records and analytics
- Device Information: Basic device and operating system information for app functionality and troubleshooting
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide and maintain the CapLog service
- Create and manage your account
- Store your fishing trip records, catches, and lure collection
- Generate analytics and insights about your fishing patterns
- Display your catches on map views using location data
- Provide weather information for your fishing locations
- Improve and optimize the app experience
- Respond to your support requests and communications
3. How We Store and Protect Your Information
Your data is stored securely using Supabase, a trusted database platform with enterprise-grade security:
- Encryption: All data is encrypted in transit using HTTPS and at rest
- Authentication: We use secure authentication methods to protect your account
- Access Control: Your data is protected by row-level security policies, ensuring only you can access your information
- Regular Backups: Your data is regularly backed up to prevent loss
4. Data Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties except in the following circumstances:
- Service Providers: We use trusted service providers (like Supabase for data storage) who assist in operating our app. These providers are contractually obligated to keep your information secure and confidential.
- Legal Requirements: We may disclose information if required by law or in response to valid legal requests.
- Protection of Rights: We may disclose information to protect the rights, property, or safety of CapLog, our users, or others.
Your data is private by default. We do not have social sharing features, and your fishing records are only visible to you.
5. Location Data
CapLog uses location data to enhance your fishing experience:
- Permission Required: We only access your location after you grant explicit permission
- When We Collect Location: Location is only collected when you actively use the app to log catches or view maps
- How We Use Location: Location data is used to record where you caught fish, display your catches on maps, and generate location-based analytics
- Control: You can revoke location permissions at any time through your device settings. Existing location data in your catch records will remain unless you manually delete it.
6. Photos and Media
When you upload photos of your catches or lures:
- Photos are stored securely in our database
- Only you can view your photos within the app
- You can delete photos at any time by deleting the associated catch or lure record
- We require camera and photo library permissions only when you choose to add photos
7. Your Rights and Choices
You have the following rights regarding your information:
- Access: You can access all your data within the CapLog app at any time
- Correction: You can edit any of your fishing records, catches, or profile information
- Deletion: You can delete individual records or request complete account deletion
- Export: You can request a copy of your data by contacting us
- Opt-Out of Location: You can disable location services for CapLog in your device settings
8. Data Retention
We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you services. If you request account deletion, we will delete your personal information within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal purposes.
9. Children's Privacy
CapLog is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected information from a child under 13, please contact us immediately.
10. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by posting the new Privacy Policy in the app and updating the "Effective Date" at the top of this policy. Your continued use of CapLog after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
11. Third-Party Services
CapLog uses the following third-party services:
- Supabase: For secure data storage and authentication
- RevenueCat: For subscription and in-app purchase management. RevenueCat processes transaction data to manage your subscription status. They do not receive your fishing data. You can review their privacy policy at revenuecat.com/privacy.
- Weather APIs: To retrieve weather information for your fishing locations
- Map Services: To display location-based maps and visualizations
These services have their own privacy policies, and we encourage you to review them.
